4-4+4+4 = 8
4+4+4/4 = 9

My math makes sense to me:
4+(4-4)/4 = 4
4 + 0/4 = 4
4 = 4


4 + (4/4)^4 = 5
4 + 1^4 = 5
4 + (1*1*1*1) = 5
4 + 1 = 5

Check your order of operations

remember to use parenthesis or else your equation for number 9 is incorrect

must use 4 fours

square root, factorials, logarithms etc. may be used

I think you are mis-remembering the order of operations

the number 13 is difficult

4+4+4-sqrt(4)=10
4*4-4-sqrt(4)=10

4*(4-4/4)=12


4*4-4/4=15
sqrt(4)*sqrt(4)*sqrt(4)*sqrt(4)=16

now 13
can anyone come up with a formula for 13?

to avoid any ambiguities the use of parenthesis may be required
