Got no replies for this in the Only Chess forum [go figure] so I'll put it here.

Who can recommend a good place to play some chess games in Dublin? I'm going to be visiting in the fall and would like to get some games in.

I had in mind the ancient version where you sit 2 feet away from the opponent the whole time. 😛

edit: and use no electronic devices to conduct the game.

Edit 2: except perhaps a clock.

    Oh, o.k., a nostalgic, uh?

Sure, sure. There's an awesome place in Dublin I can recommend.

It's 8 Capel Street, a block shy from Dublin Holiday Apartments by the Graham bridge over River Liffey. It's called The Pantry, if I recall correctly.

Friendly people, nice drinks with the right price, and lots of chess fans over there.

    Give it a try, buddy.

There have been two meet-ups in Dublin at the Quill Pub, and if you take a look at the pictures at the link below you can see some of the names of RHP members who showed up. It sure looks like they were having a good time! It might be worth a look anyway.

You could try sending a PM to some of them and see if they live in the area. If you give them a little time to organize, you might even be able to instigate another meet-up.

That was a long tie ago... many stops in between but yes back in Ireland. Huck is still around at the moment as well, sure we could get a meet up organized again. As I'm not based in Dublin would need some help with the bar though, not sure if the one we were in is still in business or still as chess friendly.

Do you know the exacts dates?

Know any other bars that wouldn't mind a couple of chess boards?
