I know this community meant a lot to him and that his most recent move was on the day he died. (He still has a number of active games.)

I'm sorry to pass along the sad news (and don't know if this is the best place on the site to do so), but I wanted to let you all know somehow.

    All the best,
    Amelia

He posted his USCF number on RHP once and I guess he is this guy:
    http://chess-db.com/public/pinfo.jsp?id=3010142113

Can someone who is a member of the USCF check out his rating, as 1288 seems crazily low judging by his play on here.

    His obituary:

Edit: I see Fat Lady beat me to the obit. At the USCF website it shows him starting with a rating of 1706 in 1997, with a decline to his passing. His USCF number is a very old one, so his 1200-something rating is probably from way back in the day. The USCF website only shows back to 1991, so his old rating assumably predates that.

He was a provisionally-rated player, meaning his first 3 rated games were played in this event in 2002.

    Edit: I don't see where you're getting the 1706 in 1997.

Edit2: Ahh, the chess-db site is to blame. If you follow their link to the USCF site, it gives you a different William J. Morris.

Go to the ratings graph. You'll see it there.

EDIT: You have the wrong William J Morris. Try USCF #10142113

EDIT: You've already figured it out!

For those who never venture to the General Forum, it is worth going there to read the original thread. Sometimes it is easy to forget the impact we have on others, and there are lots of players here who will miss his online company.

    Our loss.
