I'm a bit disappointed that it is not classical time controls this year.

Given that the new world champ isn't involved, I would like to think that there is a good chance of a British win. Although if i had to put money on it I'd put it on the Kramster.

Will be interesting to see how my fellow countryman Rowson does. He doesn't play full time these days and this is by far the strongest tourney he has played in. He was well beaten by Adams in a challenge match a few years ago so even qualifying past the first round will be a big achievement.

I really enjoyed this tournament last year. I don't recall they'd staggered the games like that last time.

Your not the only one. I was disappointed too.

Of course I will go for the American sence Magnus is not in it.

9 players the last two years. 8 matches each. But this is cool. It is like FIFA format.

It is called the chess 'classic'.... so why have they replaced classical time controls with rapid?

Could it be that they just wanted to cram more people into the tourney, so cutting the time controls compensated for it?

Last year was an incredible tournament. I can't imagine why they would switch to rapid time controls.

Is Rapid 15 Minutes time control?

Rapid is a range. The London classic is using 20 minutes a side plus 10 seconds a move for the whole game.

Yes he is. And some would say only one. 😛

So a 60 move game will be about an hr.
30 seconds for average move.

I see he has the highest rating in Rapid. But that men nothing.

Is there such thing as a blindfolded tournament? That would be awesome!

I see they are doing a Fide Open Tournament with over 180 players. So at least 90 matches a day for 9 days. By day 7 it could be possible for 2 players to be 6-0-0. and play eachother. I see in passed years they have done this. But it is not as popular as watching the Classic.
