Is chess the game for you? Do you truly love it? Find out by playing through this game, played last week, between two Masters.

    Hi Atticus.

Since technically the game can be classed as an endgame on move 42 after 42.Kxf1....

....and this endgame then goes on for another 168 moves. 🙁

I think I'll happily fail the test, I won't even take part in it.

Apparently White blundered on move 206. There are thirteen legal moves at that stage, of which eight draw and five lose.

In the words of User 66556 - I would do anything for chess, but I won't play through that game.

Another way of determining how much you love chess is to answer this question:

Who would you rather spend the day with - Magnus Carlsen or Shakira?

This is a subjective impression, but it seemed like GMs were drawing all the time in the 70's and 80's. Now it seems like these guys really want to scrap for the whole point.

    I admire the fighting spirit.

    Errr, Shakira personally.

But given the choice between a 168-move R&N ending and Shakira, I need to think.

OK, I thinked. And the answer is: umm....Shakira

Many of the top tournaments now have number of wins as a tie-breaker. So win one & lose one beats two draws. I think that's why they are fighting it out to the bitter, boring end more often.
