It all kicks off on the 9th of November.

    Here are the rules:

•The World Chess Championship Match 2013 will consist of 12 games and
if necessary, tie-break games. The draw for colors will be conducted during
    the opening ceremony.
The colors shall be reversed after game 6.
(The player getting the white color in game 1 shall play game 7 with the black color).

•The time control for each game shall be: 120 minutes for the first 40 moves,
60 minutes for the next 20 moves and then 15 minutes for the rest of the game
with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting after move 61 has been made.

•If the scores are level after the regular twelve (12) games, after a new drawing of colors,
four (4) tie-break games shall be played.

The games shall be played using the electronic clock starting with 25 minutes
for each player with an increment of 10 seconds after each move.

If the scores are level after this, then, after a new drawing of colors,
a match of 2 games shall be played with a time control of 5 minutes
plus 3 seconds increment after each move.

In case of a level score, another 2-game match will be played to determine a winner.

If still there is no winner after 5 such matches (total 10 games), one sudden-death game will be played.
The player who wins the drawing of lots may choose the color.

The player with the white pieces shall receive 5 minutes, the player with
the black pieces shall receive 4 minutes whereupon, after the 60th move,
both players shall receive an increment of 3 seconds starting from move 61.
In case of a draw the player with the black pieces is declared the winner.

Phew...OK you win the toss what do you do?
Take White with the extra minute or Black with the draw odds.

I'm really excited about this match. I believe (and hope!) that Carlsen will win relatively easily. Historically it seems that the Challenger wins the title more often than the Champion holds onto it.

I want Anand to win for India. I want to see Caro kanns and Semi slavs and if he needs a win, to roll out the open Sicilian.

"Caro kanns and Semi slavs " Oh God. I hope not.

As for predictions I'd like hear Gary Kasparov's honest opinion.
He knows a thing a two about spotting future world champions.

In 1986 before Vishy even got his GM title Gary said Vishy would
one day be the World Champion.

3 weeks? A week on Saturday you mean..? 😉

Carlsen will win by two games, that is my prediction. Though i wouldn't be surprised if Anand took a game off him, there's life in the old Tiger yet!

EDIT: Oh, and i expect at least one Scotch opening from Carlsen. Just have a feeling..

They have Opening ceremony on the 7th. That is when they draw for colours.
So 3 weeks tomorrow and as I will be away all day I posted today. 😉

See if we can get User 452515 to play User 464813 on here
at the same time. Both are currently active (there are other names that fit
the bill but these two are active.)
We can analyse their game under the thread title Vishy v Magnus and the
rest of the world will wonder what we are talking about.

I'll PM Vishy - see what he says.

    Edit: (done.)

Getting excited.......I've been preparing by reading Gligoric's book on the '72 match & watching BBC Master Game episodes. I do hope there are at least a FEW moves that I understand, but I doubt it!

Yes the more caro kanns and the more semi slavs the better! Vishy is older now, not the Vishy of the nineties, more solid! It will be a glorious victory for India! (peace be upon her)

I loved that series, the master game, you used to be able to watch it on youtube but then SirB's channel was pulled for copyright? How can something that was aired on British television and which you could legally record be subject to copyright? someone else must have bought the rights and once again capitalism deprives people of knowledge and enjoyment.

You can get the set for £22.99.

Get Mrs Robbie to buy it for you for your Christmas present.

Vishy Anand has PM'd me back - he will play Magnus in an unrated game.
Great. We will have a game to look at that we are not allowed to discuss whilst it is in progress!

No Karpov? ouch, was there not a series with Karpov in it? I remeber a Spassky v Karpov game, Kings gambit, Spassky puffing away on a cigarette, beat Karpov up with a Kings gambit, the young Karpov sounding like golum from the Lord of the rings, i am sure i did not dream it.
