    Leviticus 18:22

You shall not lie with a man, as with a woman: it is abomination.

Interesting that there are such guidelines in the Bible about what 2 men may not do together, yet it says little or nothing about what 2 women may not do together. Hmmm....

Shouldn't this be in spirituality? There isn't much about women in the Bible because they are treated as their husband's property.

I think it should stay here, it will get more traction here.

I asked this very same question in Spirituality, and got exactly zero responses, never mind any cogent answers.

Oh hell yeah women in the Old Testament were treated as their husbands's property.
    5000 years ago.
Whereas now the Islamic crud religion you defend on and off STILL treats them as such.

I don't recall "defending" Islam or superstition in general. Perhaps you have me confused with someone else.

You only got zero answers because you cannot handle the truth!

That is why God gave them over to uncontrolled sexual passion, for their females changed the natural use of themselves into one contrary to nature likewise also the males left the natural use of the female and became violently inflamed in their lust toward one another, males with males, working what is obscene and receiving in themselves the full penalty, which was due for their error.

RC can comment for the new Testament, but among religious Jews, it's common knowledge that the Biblical prohibition against homosexuality applies only to men. There are religious common law edicts that address lesbianism, but those are not Biblical. It's also interesting to note that there's no Biblical prohibition of oral sex amongst men and certainly none that regard hand jobs and the like.

Not that it really matters, of course...

How does Onan, and his untimely demise, fit into all that?

That's a commonly misunderstood text. Pulling out wasn't why Gog killed him; it was the repeated refusal to carry on his dead brother's name by fathering children on the dead brother's behalf, by impregnating the widow. Jews sure have some strange ideas.

    Cogent: clear, logical, and convincing.

The following is clear but whether it is logical and convincing is arguble. It's basically what RC said.

    http://www.gotquestions.org/Bible-lesbian.html

    quote:

Question: "What does the Bible say about being a lesbian? Does the Bible mention lesbianism?"

Answer: Some are under the assumption that, while the Bible condemns gay sex between men, it nowhere condemns being a lesbian/lesbianism. Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13 mention men having sex with other men, but say nothing of women having sex with other women. In the Sodom and Gomorrah account in Genesis 19, the men of the cities wanted to gang rape other men. First Corinthians 6:9 mentions effeminate men, very likely referring to homosexuals, but does not mention lesbians. So, does the Bible in fact condemn male homosexuality, but not lesbianism?

Romans 1:26-27 puts this invalid assumption to rest: “Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.” Clearly, this passage puts lesbianism on equal ground with male homosexuality. Lesbianism is described as women exchanging natural relations (with men) for unnatural relations (with women). According to the Bible, being a lesbian is just as sinful as being a homosexual male. [JS comment: this would be more convincing if the verse has "with men" and "with women" in it. Also, the interpretation seems to open the door for women to have sex with their husbands in other than missionary mode. What was Paul really against?]

There’s an implication in Romans 1:26 that lesbianism is even worse than male homosexuality. Notice the phrase “even their women.” The text seems to suggest that it is more common for men to engage in sexual depravity, and when women begin to do it, that is a sign things are getting really bad. Men usually have much stronger sex drives than women, and so are more prone to sexual deviancy. When women commit unnatural sexual acts, then the degree of immorality has truly become shameful. Lesbianism is evidence of people being given over to “the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another” (Romans 1:24).

It's a bit like porn websites that have a "gay filter" on by default against homosexual male content, but yet lesbian content is turned on by default. It's market segmentation, targeted for heterosexual men.

Incidentally, lesbian sex has a lower rate of STD transmission than heterosexual sex does, and lesbian sex can't lead to unwanted pregnancies or abortions. Is lesbian sex a better moral choice for a woman than heterosexual sex is, then?
