For me personally I believe it's not a religion if God does everything for us that's not a religion.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jesus was a rebel with a cause: John 18:37 Pilate said, “So you are a king?” Jesus responded, “You say I am a king. Actually, I was born and came into the world to testify to the truth. All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true.”
Jesus went against religion to bring relationship with God:
2 Corinthians 3:13-18
13 We are not like Moses, who put a veil over his face so the people of Israel would not see the glory, even though it was destined to fade away. 14 But the people’s minds were hardened, and to this day whenever the old covenant is being read, the same veil covers their minds so they cannot understand the truth. And this veil can be removed only by believing in Christ. 15 Yes, even today when they read Moses’ writings, their hearts are covered with that veil, and they do not understand. 16 But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17 For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.
Against send to bring forgiveness: Colossians 1:14 who purchased our freedom [a] and forgave our sins.
Footnotes: 1:14 Some manuscripts add with his blood.
His body was placed against the cross to bring salvation: 1 Corinthians 1:18 The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now to the religion that God truly wants where you don't make sacrifices to please Him. Jesus said to repent for the kingdom of God is at hand so that's not really religion.
Here is what you're looking for:James 1:25-27
25 But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it. 26 If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless. 27 Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.
1 Timothy 5:3-5
3 Take care of [a] any widow who has no one else to care for her. 4 But if she has children or grandchildren, their first responsibility is to show godliness at home and repay their parents by taking care of them. This is something that pleases God. 5 Now a true widow, a woman who is truly alone in this world, has placed her hope in God. She prays night and day, asking God for his help.
Footnotes: 5:3 Or Honor.
New Living Translation (NLT) is what I used.
