God is good?

I can't take credit for this but a friend put forward this observation.

If you read any novel, you determine who the good guys and bad guys
are. You make that decision based on the characters actions and deeds
in relation to your own morality. The novel does not, for example, have
to explicitly say "Harry Potter is a good wizard"

Why then does the bible have to?

Is it because god's deeds are contrary to human morality?

So by what standard would you judge God by?

wolfgang59, it is the height of arrogance for any human being to even presume to "judge" Almighty God and/or His Perfect Righteousness. Anyone who persists in thinking otherwise will be in for quite a surprise at the Great White Throne Judgment.

Why do any mortal think that he knows god so much that he can judge him at all? God is not human, he cannot be judge by a man, it's just impossible. It's like an ant can judge you and would you care at all...?

Who are you to judge God?
I acknowledge that I'm not a good source for standards of right and wrong,
since I know I have and still do when I'm not careful accept things I like
over what is right. I can also turn a blind eye to what is bad over what is
right and good too.

I will stand in judgment over other people since they share the same
strengths and faults I have, but God I find when I walking in His ways I
find them good.

In the very best novels (or movies), there are no good guys or bad guys, there are only guys (with various failings).
The novel does not, for example, have to explicitly say "Harry Potter is a good wizard"
But it does strongly imply it in various ways, even though it is not necessarily true. I always felt that the students in Slytherin were unfairly discriminated against and that Harry Potter is in many ways not a very nice boy - nor particularly clever either.

Every theist that worships god has judged him to be worthy of that worship.

My question is what do you place that judgement on?

How have you judged god to be good? (Or haven't you?)

An atheist can say "I haven't judged god"

But a theist necessarily has!

But I'm sure you understand where I'm coming from.
We make judgements on characters in books based on their actions,
we do not need the author to say "This is Jack Reacher, he is a good
guy" (again perhaps not a good example just what I read last)

I do, but I think it is more complicated than that. I think we usually do know who the author is pushing as the 'good guy' and we may disagree with the authors judgment. I suspect that if you were asked to name the 'good guy' in the last 20 novels you read you would name them based on who the author was promoting as 'good guy' and not on a fair assessment of their moral behaviour during the novel.
