What happened to Yasser Seirawan?

Has he retired from chess? I don't find him in the USCF or FIDE lists. I know he is from Seattle Washington, saw him play as a teenager there. But not on the top 100 lists of the USCF.

Last I heard he'd abandoned real chess for his own silly variant:

Yeah, I heard that. I found him at USCF and FIDE, was putting his first name first🙂. I read he came back to regular chess in 2011, 4 or 5 years with his variant. I guess that didn't work out so well. Fischer random looks like it has done better than Sharper chess, which is one suggestion for the name, Harper and Seirawan invented it together.

He isn't on the latest list, I guess that is due to inactivity in the US.

S-chess is a delightful variant. It introduces two, perfectly evolutionary, pieces (rook-knight and bishop-knight compounds) without altering the nature of the game or the size of the board. A variant that tries to be revolutionary, i.e. with multiple alterations, might possibly be 'silly', but that is not the case here.

How do they do the moves? Alternate between the two players? Can they talk about the games during the games? The other side could hear all their comment if so....

They both sit at the same board, no talking.
The man makes the odd numbered move, the lady the even numbered move.

Ah, thanks. That looks a bit like what me and my GF did in Thailand where they had a chess club at the AFB, NKP up north near the Mekong. We did a simul, she is a fairly strong player and so we did it like this: 17 opponents, I made a move, she came behind me and made the next move on the board while I was onto the next board, we went around like that, won all our games! This was at the USO club at the then American AFB, now handed over to Thailand.

When I first did the simul thing there, we had a few onlookers but when my gf and I started doing it, wow, the place was standing room only! The manager of the USO club said, let them win a few games, we don't want to totally discourage them from participating! If they won, they got USO dollars, they could trade in for a shirt or pen or some such. Great fun!
