... seems to me ... through the lens darkly ... & especially when one has a limited view of this maddening sport ... the above referenced does refine the lines of attack & thus create new opportunities ? (that i seem2 rarely take advantage of :p ) ... yet the 1.5 K + players seem to castle often & early ... i'm gonna say for us newb's its a liability until ~ move 15+ if (when) we get in trouble !

From the archives: another castling discussion, & im sure theres many others ...

Castling early is recommended for beginners more because it puts their king in a safer place rather than because it develops a rook.

    .. goot avrice ... volf ; )

Lets see if anyone throws some real pearls forward, that most of us can learn from ... i'm suggesting its a lost move if you don't integrate it (released rook) into the next 2-3 moves & that my frengs ... is what many of us dont do so well!

    Not a lost move.

Your King safety should be the 2nd consideration.
The first consideration is how safe is their King!

Castling takes the burden of defending f2/f7 off the King.
f2/f7 can be hit with natural developing.

True this shifts the weak spot to h2/h3 but a Knight is usually developed
on f3/f6 to hold this square. (a Knight has to be developed before castles).

The true soft spot after castle is g2/g7 but this is harder to hit with natural moves.

Yes you can put another piece to cover f2/f7 but then you are possibly
    mis-placing that piece. (Nh3/Nh6 etc).

The Rook is brought into the game much quicker. Don't worry if it does
have an effect with the next 5-6 moves. The very fact it is available
    to you is a bonus.

Never castle automatically but statisitics prove uncastled Kings lose
more often than Kings that have castled.

Karpov's words before a simul in the 1980's.
Plans.....strategy?.....First I'll take out all those who have not castled and
concentrate on the rest." or it was words to that effect.

Castling is good because your king should get some rest
before heading out to fight in the endgame battle :3

Castling means you can fight for the center without worrying about your #&($) King getting mated.

The Gravediggers Castlery would have addressed all of these problems.
