I posted this elsewhere, but thought it may work in here too.
You can go to one gig before you die. This gig can be imaginary, real, past, present or future. Who, when and why? For me it would be Led Zeppelin in 1975, at Earls Court.
It is widely accepted that while the gigs from the 1973 Madison Square Garden featured on the the double live album "The Song Remains The Same" are the most well known of the broadcasted Zep gigs, the Vintage 1975 stuff was the band at their live peak and importantly feature songs from the brilliant album "Physical Graffiti".
I think that after this live and recording period the band not so much went into decline, but certainly went off the boil.
Sorry, but "gigs" are where musicians go to play and get paid to play. A "gig" is a musician's job for the night, not a performance a non-musician pays to see. You can't appropriate the musician's lingo to talk about something you paid to see, it just doesn't make sense.
When you pay to see a musician play, that's called a "concert". It may be just another "gig" for him, but it's not a "gig" for you. You're not getting paid to perform. He is.
All that said, I'm probably going to go see Jason Bonham at a local indian casino on the 29th. If I don't get the 29th off from work, I'm going to have to "road trip" to Laughlin to see him the next night.
He and his band are supposed to perform Led Zeppelin I and II in their entirety, plus other Zep hits. I never got the chance to see Led Zeppelin, so maybe this is the next best thing. When they broke up in 1980 following John Bonham's death, I was only 3.

Nothing against that, it has just aged a bit, like Mark. I LOVE his energy and attack on the first 3 Dire Straits albums. As a guess, he only played 'Sultans' from them?

I've listened to the Manchester gig and the Dublin gig and enjoyed them. But I am baffled by how some people I know are collecting recordings of the whole tour when the set lists are virtually identical night after night and there is almost nothing improvised or different aside from some variations in the longer guitar solos. The band and the material purrs like a cruising Rolls Royce though.
Only one gig...
