OK, since there seems to be so much interest in religion and faith among chess players, I am starting this thread to provoke discussions about difficult passages. There is only one rule. You may not deviate from the passage by bringing up irrelevant topics or other passages. Talk about the passage and talk about your reaction to it.

Passage #1: Matthew 15:21-28. OK, for you lazy asses to lazy to read it for yourself, it is about the Caananite woman who approaches Jesus and asks him to heal her daughter of demon possesion. Jesus says, "I was sent only for the lost sheep of Israel." She persists and Jesus responds, "It is not right to take the childrens' bread and give it to the dogs."

So what are we to make of Jesus' attitude?

I have always been confused by the verse which states "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." (I'm sorry but I can't recall where it is found).

This is obviously a flawed statement since we are all just human and, of course, cannot do all things. But my question is how am I to interpret the phrase "all things" figuratively since there really is only one sensical interpretation? (ie. the literal one)

Oh, I can tell this is going to be a wonderful, thought-provoking thread. OK, let me offer something to connect you and RB. When it says "I can do all things through Christ" does it mean that his dyslexia can be cured?

Hehe, no offense Darv, but you quoted Kirk's question, avoided that and then asked your own question. Read's RB's link, perhaps it may prove usefull.

your move btw.

Huh? What'd I do?

I thought Kirk was waiting for a question so I asked one. Sorry, Brah.

You may come back to my question later if you like. But I would appreciate it if it could be discussed.

I going to move riiiiiiiiiiiight... NOW!

Yeah, this is another thing I notice about you. You spend too much time in the forums and not enough on making quick, uncalculated moves.

Curious, to answer Kirk's question, what does the Scriptures say about our ability to understand the scriptures. This may be where discussion should start.

ALL things, right? A cure for dyslexia should be a rather simple task in that case.

I think even though she was possessed her faith was still with the Lord, and their was no healing to be done.

That means though the help of Christ and praying and asking him for help he will help you.

To me, Jesus sounds like a racist. Honestly.
