Computer chess does not beat sitting down with your friend and seeing the board in front of you. However, I can sure play more and have gotten better regardless of my current rating.
Tournament Entry Rating is calculated by the formula (CurrentRating + HighestRating) / 2. The entry rating will never drop to more than 100 points below your Highest Rating.
