Scientists Ask Obama To Prosecute Global Warming Skeptics

The science on global warming is settled, so settled that 20 climate scientists are asking President Barack Obama to prosecute people who disagree with them on the science behind man-made global warming.

Scientists from several universities and research centers even asked Obama to use the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) to prosecute groups that “have knowingly deceived the American people about the risks of climate change, as a means to forestall America’s response to climate change.”

RICO was a law designed to take down organized crime syndicates, but scientists now want it to be used against scientists, activists and organizations that voice their disagreement with the so-called “consensus” on global warming. The scientists repeated claims made by environmentalists that groups, especially those with ties to fossil fuels, have engaged in a misinformation campaign to confuse the public on global warming.

"the so-called “consensus” on global warming."

it's so called because it is a consensus. climate change is happening and is caused by humans.

So now that we have the source of all truthiness, should those who defy it be prosecuted?

Should they be labeled heretics and be burned at the stake unless they recant?

This is funny. I can't help from laughing about this nonsense. Obama is the one that needs to be prosecuted. 😀

if one can prove these scientists knowingly falsified results, knowingly misinterpreted data, all to mislead the public, yes, of course they should be prosecuted.

"Should they be labeled heretics and be burned at the stake unless they recant?"
yes, yes, you are comparing climate change deniers with scientists during the inquisition. we have noticed.

the thing is, o insane one, that being in a minority in the scientific world is not proof of greatness. sometimes you are the laughing stock of the scientific community because you are a moron or a liar.

How much warmer is it now than it should be?

Should the same justice be distributed to politicians like Obama who promised that our health insurance rates would not increase and that we could keep the same coverage etc?

All this talk is interesting because a British court found that Al Gores movie on global warming had 9 "untruths" and was declared propaganda.

I'm guessing they don't want him held accountable.

it is ludicrous to dream that politicians could be prosecuted for unfulfilled promisses. one could dream though.

However the court in question allowed the film to be sent to all schools in the U.K. provided it came with guidelines to teachers that the inaccuracies should be pointed out to the kids. Further the judge agreed with the overall claim in the film that climate change is being driven by human carbon emissions. So your post is somewhat misrepresentative of the actual judgement.

What is more the Kent school teacher who brought the case was a member of the New Party. The only New Party I've ever heard of in Britain was Mosley's lot before they became the British Union of Fascists. The new New Party were apparently all neo-liberals too mad to stay in the Conservatives. If they didn't want my accusation of fascism they should have been more careful about their name. Really, while he might have spotted some slack research in the film they didn't establish a sufficiently fundamental argument to bar schools from showing the film.

Back in the day, the tobacco company executives, under oath in congress, denied that tobacco was either addictive or carcinogenic. They were committing perjury of course but they were never prosecuted. The energy industry profiteers today, in protecting their incredible revenue streams, deny that the globe is trapping heat in the environment. They are not likely to be prosecuted either.
Its insufficient to prosecute these people. Some of them, at least, are corrupt to the extent that they would risk that planet before they'd educate themselves. It's very difficult to fathom an appropriate response, but jail time is far too gentle.
At any rate, they are too ignorant to be in high political office

Why is it ludicrous? Why is it ludicrous to expect politicians to tell us the truth about something so personal and economically important as health care?

What is more important than our health and income? Anyone else would be thrown in jail about lying about such important things.
