The Professor told us that it is a constant time for fusion to become commercial which is about 30 years. (It was 30 yeras in the 40's when people expected that in the 70's electricity would be so cheap as not to counted) and it is still about that time ( Infromation from the Institute of nuclear fucion, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology).
That any industrial magnate would be able to harness the power earlier is hardly conceivable. And we still have a share of unsolved problems we do know about and history of the technology teaches us that unknown problem pop up, after haveing solved known ones 😉. The research into fusion is still fruitful, as we know now a lot more about plasma physics than we knew in the 40's or the 90's.
