Roses are Red...

A thread for this Valentine's weekend.

Some of us are fortunate to have, or have had, a special person to celebrate occasions like this with. I know it's all a bit commercial, but in this age of cynicism and hate let's stop for a moment to celebrate those we love, we have loved, we have perhaps loved from afar, or those precious loved ones who are no longer with us.
Love is pretty cool in all its forms.

I was going to make a comment about "pounding" and FMF's propensity for hanging out in dodgy Jakarta bars.

Colombians don't celebrate Valentine's day, lucky on both fronts 😉

Quite a lot of Indonesians do something to mark Valentine's Day - encouraged by retailers and advertisers - but there are many (Muslims) who do not like 'celebrating' a day named after Christian saint. Such objections are normally something akin to the objections among many Christians about how trashy and secular Christmas has become, but in other somewhat rarer cases the objection is quite staunch and rooted in religious ideology ~ wherein... a pious Muslim has no business getting involved in commercialised, pseudo-Christian froth, it's wrong to see such contamination as 'harmless' etc. etc.

Poem in Prose

This poem is for my wife.
I have made it plainly and honestly:
The mark is on it
Like the burl on the knife.

I have not made it for praise.
She has no more need for praise
Than summer has
Or the bright days.

In all that becomes a woman
Her words and her ways are beautiful:
