I don't think this thread was inviting anyone to spout off with smarty-pants anti-monarchy quips. I'd keep Thailand off the itinerary for the next year or so if I were you - if you're unable to keep thoughts like this to yourself. Thailand's just lovely, with the nicest people you can meet and they loved their King. Have a bit of respect.

I have no direct personal knowledge. My comment was based on discussions with Mike Lomax's widow last January - she is a Thai national and she told me that Mike had great respect for him, as did most Thais. His position had been only ceremonial for a long time, I believe.
