Whenever I try to create a set piece game, it won't let me position either King where I want them. Every time I try to move one it says it's an illegal move - even if I castle.

    Any ideas?

Has it something to do with "Castling Available" option in the "Advance Set Position"?
Or perhaps Who's to move, Black or White at the same page?

All the "castling available" options are ticked as well as "white to move".

If the king has moved then castling cannot still be available

I'm not playing a game - I'm setting one up - I should be able to put the pieces wherever I want.

Yes, when setting up a position, you can put the kings wherever you want. But if you do, you must untick the "castling is available" checkboxes.
