I would say the best way is to click on his name.
1 of the boxes that will appear is "message"
Just open it up and say what you like to the player and it will appear as an unread message on his screen.
If you want to know when he's seen it, go to your own sent messages on your home page and the little yellow envelope will show as open when he's opened it.
