When I hit the vacation button, that notifies ALL my opponents
I am on vacation, right?
Also when I type something in the vacation message box, does
that also go to all my opponents? Thanks, have to be in
Ohio for a week or so.
Does vacation stop the clocks or is it just a way to nicely ask people
not to claim a win even though they can?

No, I don't believe anything is sent to your opponents. All that happens is the vacation icon appears by your username, and the message appears at the top of your profile page. It does not stop the clock either.

I believe this is true, unless something has been changed recently.

Ah, its a message to your own profile so if others go to your
profile they can read it. Ok, thanks. I may find an internet cafe
somewhere but I will be in Toledo Ohio, don't know if there is one
there or not. I guess I can check out Toledo.com, found some
nice irish sessions through that, took guitar and mandolin with me
a couple of weeks ago.

If you want to see an example of how it works, go to 'player tables' then click on 'most active players'. You will see someone there is on vacation and if you click their profile, you can see an example of the vacation message.
