What is "Rival"?

What is "Rival" and how do you use it? I downloaded and ran it, but just get a blank dos screen. I can type stuff and my typing appears but it doesn't respond. Eventually it crashes. FWIW, I'm using Windows XP Pro.

Is there a manual on how to use it??
