Annotated Games

Lack of development. King in the center. Unusual Opening.

  • 1. e4 e5 2. Ng1f3 b6
? I have never seen this before, but my opponent says that it and the next couple of moves have worked well for him, but it just seems to hang the pawn on e5.
    • 3. Nf3xe5 Qd8h4
? I understand the thought. Wishing to attack right away and put White on the Defensive, but with careful play it seems like White remains a pawn to the good and gains time by attacking the queen.
      • 4. Nb1c3 Bf8c5 5. d4 Bc5b4 6. Bf1d3
Protecting the pawn in case of an exchange on c3.
        • 6... Ng8f6 7. O-O Bb4d6
?! Neglecting the development of the light squared bishop and creating a potential fork on e5.
          • 8. Ne5f3 Qh4h5
Now White wins a piece for a pawn.
            • 9. e5 Bc8b7 10. exd6 Bb7xf3 11. Rf1e1 Ke8f8
Locking the h8 rook out of the game and preventing the King from castling.
              • 12. Qd1xf3
!? While the attacking chances lie with White in this position it seemed like they were intensified by trading queens because of Black's stifled development and material disadvantage
                • 12... Qh5xf3 13. gxf3 cxd6 14. d5
! Stopping the knight from developing on its most natural square and opening up the center so that the two bishops can control the game.
                  • 14... h6
? Waste of a move. It doesn't develop anything and doesn't create luft (b/c of the d3 Bishop).
                    • 15. Bc1f4 Nf6e8 16. Nc3b5 Nb8a6
? Loose Pieces Drop Off. Better might have been g5, but the position looks hopeless because of the material disadvantage and Black's lack of development.
