I have started playing c4 first. Pushing the knight around some more.

? Seems like it would have been better to remove the knight from danger.

It seems like the queen is strong on g4, but the knight and rook is formidable.
9... Qg4xg2 10. Rh1g1 Qg2h3 11. Rg1xg7 h6
Allowing white to create many threats on the stranded king.
