Annotated Games

Best game I've played to date. Highly tactical opening and middle game. Shows how games can be lost in a single, seemingly unimportant, move.

  • 1. e4 c5 2. Bf1c4
?! I find this move a bit premature... 2.Nf3 seems better first.
    • 2... Nb8c6 3. Ng1f3 g6
! The Accelerated Dragon! One of my personal favorites.
      • 4. d4 cxd4 5. Nf3xd4
The Classical Variation, but this position is rare and is usually achieved with 2.Nf3 then 5.Bc4,
        • 5... Bf8g7
!? This is the obvious move in this position, but I prefer 5...Qa5+! because of its direct attacking lines even though it does move the queen out in the opening, which is something I prefer not to do usually.
          • 6. Bc1e3 Ng8f6 7. Nb1c3 Qd8a5
?! This move comes in a little late and could end up hurting black in the long run. The idea is to capture the e-pawn for free with Nxe4 because the knight on c3 in pinned.
            • 8. O-O
! Removes the pin on the knight to defend the e-pawn.
              • 8... O-O 9. Rf1e1 Qa5b4
!? Double attack on both the bishop and b-pawn.
                • 10. Bc4b3
! Best defense to ...Qb4, moves the bishop out of danger while also blocking the attack on the b2 pawn. 10.b3?? drops a knight to the obvious 11.Qxc3.
                  • 10... e5 11. a3 Qb4e7 12. Nc3d5 Nf6xd5 13. exd5 Nc6xd4
                    ! 13...exd4? 14.Bxd4! then d
                    • 14. Be3xd4 Qe7d6 15. Bd4c3 a5
                      ! Stopping the skewer 16.Bb4!
