A game of maneuvering, with a sudden burst of tactics at the end. I've only commented the end.

White is threatening the vulnerable c-pawn. I could defend it with Qb6, but it is a little passive. I'd like to say I started this sequence with a concrete plan in mind, but it was just because I prefer active moves to passive ones.
    • 20... Nb4xd3
The Queen is overloaded, so in capturing the knight, the bishop is left undefended.
      • 21. Qd2xd3 Rb8xb2 22. Ne4xc5 Qc7b6
Material is level, but the position is a bit more open and I've gotten a few threats, which is a good thing. As I said earlier, I'd like to say I planned for this, but I don't plan! Active moves sometimes give you the initiative, whereas passive moves never do. Thus I go for active options if they are available and then I see where I end up.

I need to run this position through an engine to see if White has a good defence. This move definitely doesn't defend against the threats, although to be fair to my opponent the move I came up with was from obvious. Maybe White could have tried Qc4? Yeah, maybe that works. Then drive the rook out from the second rank. Hard to see where it goes. Nb5 clearing the file for the other rook might lead to new threats appearing. Black has the initiative still, though it is hard to see anything concrete. I'm making this up as I'm typing, so not the deepest of analysis!

A surprise to my opponent. I found this move by a process of elimination. I was looking at discovered attacks on the Queen and considered every legal Knight move. This move does the job nicely. Every line wins material as the Queen is pushed too far. The Queen is currently defending the Knight on e4 and is under attack from two pieces. The Knight on e4 is protecting the f2 square. Something like 24.Qe3 leads to ...Qxe3 25.dxe3 Nxg2 26.Kxg2 Bxe4 and White is a piece down for nothing. Other Queen moves just lose the Knight on e4 after the Knight on f4 has taken the Bishop. The least-worst option might be: Rxc6. Black has to play Qxc6, then the White Queen moves and the knight exchanges itself for the bishop on g2. White is only an exchange down, although his position doesn't look too healthy. It would be wonderful to say I planned this in advance. However, it came about because I looked for the more active choice in the position rather than taking the safe option.
