  • 1. e4 e5 2. Ng1f3 Nb8c6 3. d4 exd4
Scotch game. No way really to hold on to the e-pawn so exchange it is.
  • 4. Nf3xd4 Bf8c5 5. Bc1e3
Or Nxc6, making a double pawn, or Nb3, saving the knight with a tempo.
  • 5... Qd8f6 6. c3
Otherwise good but the queen's knight is a bit blocked as a result.
  • 6... Ng8e7 7. Nb1a3 d5
Or Bxa3, shredding the white pawn formations on the queen side, but I wanted the rest of my officers in play. This threatens the center, blocks Nc4,and opens the diagonal c8-h3 for my bishop, even prepares a queen side castle.
  • 8. Na3b5
Good move. I totally missed that.
  • 8... Bc5b6 9. Nd4xc6 Qf6xc6 10. Nb5d4
? Good threats there, but it's not quick enough after the exchange, leading to the loss of a pawn and an isolated white d-pawn. exd5 would been better I think.
  • 10... Bb6xd4 11. cxd4
Qxd4 would've been better, but the e-pawn is still lost.
  • 11... dxe4 12. a4 a6 13. Ra1c1 Qc6d6
yes, yes. My queen is too exposed. You get to develop your pieces at will while I run for cover.
  • 14. Rc1c3
    ? how about g3, preparing Bf4 and then Bxc7 ? Or Qc2 with a double threat on c7 and e5?
  • 14... Ne7d5 15. Rc3b3
Not a very strong place for the rook.. Rc1 could be at least as good.
