17. e5
Saves the e-pawn. Perhaps f3 could've been considered as well as as not to let the black knight to the center?
17... Nf6d5 18. Nd2e4
Knights looking good, but once the black knight moves there is a revealed threat in e4, so care need be taken.
18... Nd5f4 19. Rc1xc8
saves the white knight, and reduces the fork after Ne2+, but loses the open c-file to black and helps black develop the quiet f8 rook. Better - Ng3.
19... Rf8xc8 20. Ne4d6
?! Looks good but a milder Ng3 could've been better to protect e2.
20... Nf4e2 21. Kg1h1 Rc8c7 22. Nd6xb7 Rc7xb7 23. a4
?? Doesn't spot the thread Nxd4. After that trouble starts.
23... Ne2xd4 24. Bb3d1
The only way not to lose the a4 pawn, but the white officers are awkwardly placed and the black knight is very powerful where it is.
24... b4 25. Rf1e1 b3 26. Bd1g4 b2 27. Re1b1 Rb7c7
Rxb2 Rc1+ Bd1 Rxd1 checkmate
28. Rb1g1 Rc7c1 29. h3
and the game is done with the coronation of the b-pawn.
29... b1=Q 30. Rg1xc1 Qb1xc1 31. Kh1h2 Qc1f4 32. Kh2g1 f5 33. Bg4f3 g5 34. Bf3d1 Qf4d2
Qc1 would've pinned and then killed the bishop but that would've been tacky. I tried an equally effective but less crude end.
35. Bd1h5 g4
Frees the e2 square for the knight, trying to go for a beautiful mate, but misses one escape route.
