    41. Bxe4 fails to ... d3-d2 and the d-pawn sails home.

DeepThought found a faster win here with: 43. ... exf. I did not see it at the time; I was transfixed by the possibility that my opponent might go for the win of the exchange KxRg4, whereupon ... d3-d2 is unstoppable. In the event, my opponent refused the offer of the rook on g4.
      • 44. Kf4xe3
        44. KxR is met by ... d3-d2, as noted above.

Is 43. ... Rxg4 necessary? I don't see a way for black to prevent one of the two pawns from queening after 43. ... exf2, e.g. after 44. Bh3 d2 the rook cannot cover d1 and the bishop has to let go of f1 if white wants to stop d2-d1. Your line reduces white's material earlier, but my suggestion (assuming there's not a flaw I've missed) allows promotion of both pawns getting the bishop that way, is one method better or is it just a matter of taste?

          Good annotation by the way.

Nice variation (43. exf2); I don't see any flaw in it. I was not sure how much my opponent was capable of foreseeing at this point and I thought that White might play 44. KxR and give me the elegant run for home as noted above. In the event, he did not fall for the offered exchange-sac, but the endgame was in the bag already anyway even if he refused.

... Kd7 was also playable here; the Black B cannot be taken, otherwise the d-pawn runs home.

The end game is straightforward: Black advances his K as close to the d-pawn as the White K allows, Black ignores White pawn activity on the Q-side (unless exchange is necessary to prevent a White break-through), and zugzwang eventually forces the White K to yield. Not at all a bad performance by White, given our rating differential. White resigned. 0 - 1
