This pawn grab is not recommended in any of the several books I have on the Caro-Kann. We'll soon see why.
8. Qd1xd4 Nc6xd4 9. O-O-O e5 10. f4
Black is already struggling against immediate threats by White to invade the position. White's superior development and open lines are very favourable.
10... Nd4c6
?? A silly move, poorly judged. This should lose immediately. Slightly better was ... Bc5; then if 11. fxe5, Ng4 with some counter play for Black.
11. Nc3b5
The Black QR is now lost, and Black has nothing to show for it. If ... Rb8; then 12. Nc7+, Ke7; 13. f4xe5 and White has more threats than Black can counter.
11... Bf8b4 12. Nb5c7
This is hasty and allows Black to get some undeserved counter play. Upon 12. BxNf6 (to be followed by 13. Nc7+), I was prepared to resign on the spot.
