Who do you rec jazz-wise? Way back when I went to a Gato Barbieri concert by accident at a festival. Pretty good stuff! For chess playing I can listen to about all of it except for maybe some free form type music like Ornette or Cecil Taylor. Cats like that have their own time for listening.
Gato is usually ok but he can be pretty crazy as well. A real howler at times.
