Originally posted by StTitoIt is similar in that they're both about music. NME is a weekly magazine. It's more comparable to Rolling Stone. But even that's a terrible comparison. Rolling Stone, at least, has some decent journalism at times. NME reads like a tabloid.
Is NME similar to Pichfork in the States ?

did some more digging. Apparently, NME posted this list from a list provided by MYSPACE for bands that MYSPACE thought would be big in 2008.
I take it no one knows any of these guys.
Ponytail
Vampire Weekend
Wavves
Harvey Milk
Times New Viking
Nobunny
Surf City
Titus Andronicus
Crystal Antlers
The Mae Shi
Originally posted by badmoonI don't have satellite radio. Sometimes I hear really good stuff on the CBC but most of the good stuff (good to me, at least) I find comes from last.fm or the forkcast on pitchforkmedia (http://pitchfork.com/forkcast). When I hear something I like then I'll usually check out their Myspace. If I like more than one song I will download the album on isoHunt or Pirate Bay. If I like the whole alubm, I'll buy it at the record store. When on a band's Myspace I will also check out their "friend" bands in their Top whatever to see if I find a treasure.
Where do you hear these bands? Satellite radio?
When reading reviews of albums, I usually go to metacritic.org.
Not all of the bands I listed are obscure though. Vampire Weekend did play on SNL this year and was #15 on the Billboard charts at one point.
