Ibtihaj Muhammad, a black American Muslim fencer, will become the first
athlete to represent the USA while wearing hijab in the Olympic games.

"It's (fencing in the USA) always been a white sport reserved for people with money."
    --Ibtihaq Muhammad

Ibtihaq Muhammad evidently has started her own clothing line, aimed at
young Muslim women with physically active lifestyles.

What do you want to debate about? Take it to the general forums next time, there's nothing to argue about here, it's just a news blurb.

Aren't most Olympic sports already given specific and uniform dress requirements? Seems that only color and logos are matters of choice. In many sports even color isn't a choice.

How much would it bother Normbenign to see the USA represented by a Muslim woman in hijab at the Olympics?

Good luck to her. I'll be rooting for her to win a gold medal (as I generally root for all Americans).

Ibtihaj Muhammad has won two bronze medals in recent top women's sabre competitions,
but her US teammate, Mariel Zagunis has performed better, having won two gold medals.
In the most recent six top tournaments (World Cup or Grand Prix), two were won by an
American (Mariel Zagunis), two by a Russian, one by a Ukrainian, and one by a Chinese.

What significance is a hijab ?
Is it religious , do you have to wear it ?
    Is it cultural ?
    Is it a statement ....I am a Muslim ?
When you come in too this world we are all naked ,where does this piece of man made cloth on your head come from ?
What would you say Duchess64 if a Scot's man turned up at the Olympics wearing a kilt for a competition ?

What would be hilarious is if she wore the hijab over the mask and white hood.

Or does she wear it under the mask?

And what the hell is she trying to prove?
what do the clothing hadith's say about women fighting with swords anyways?
And if she's snorkeling... Is she gonna wear a burka too?

Bloody pathetic attention seeking whore of Allah, if you ask me.

You want a rational explanation as to why people root for sports outcomes?

    Good luck with that.

No, I'm just wondering why you, personally, think you do it.

I know why people in general do it.
