If not you only lease your land and don't really own it even after you paid for it. That is worse than communism, isn't it? If you don't pay your property taxes your land is foreclosed and is taken away from you.

Seems like Marxism is alive and well in the USA.

From the link below:

"So in a sense, we need to be clear as to what actually we talk about when we're referring to the property tax. And even still, that can be a progressive tax that, in theory, would take a larger chunk of revenue from those who have more property and have more wealth than those who lack it. But in practice, that's not the case. In practice, the property tax is regressive. Studies have consistently shown that lower-valued properties are taxed at an effectively higher rate. And that when you get very high up the scale, then you're seeing real reductions in — the incidence of taxation is one that skews much more towards lower value properties and effectively has a higher burden on poorer Americans."

Democrats should support ending property taxes because it is a regressive tax and racist. It disproportionately screws over black Americans.
Republicans should support ending property taxes because it is communism.

Blue states have lower property taxes.

Edit: whoops I was wrong. Some of the highest rates overall are red states though e.g. Texas.

Property taxes should be removed for primary residences but increased for investment properties.

states are going to tax, they have to.
states the have high property taxes generally dont have income taxes.
you have to look at the full range of taxes to get an accurate picture.

no matter what the tax is called its still the same in the end

Sure they are going to tax, but what kind of taxes? Read the link I posted. It has been suggested that property tax be replaced with a higher sales tax.

Property taxes are communism. Are you a communist?

So I am in the team Jean Jacques Rosseau here:

“The first man who, having enclosed a piece of ground, bethought himself of saying This is mine, and found people simple enough to believe him, was the real founder of civil society. From how many crimes, wars and murders, from how many horrors and misfortunes might not any one have saved mankind, by pulling up the stakes, or filling up the ditch, and crying to his fellows, "Beware of listening to this impostor; you are undone if you once forget that the fruits of the earth belong to us all, and the earth itself to nobody.”

Why is it that we think that a person can own land?

I see that the first peopl growing anything ona field who invested their work would want the harvest to belong to them. And the simplest marker is to say: I "own" this piece of land".
In a society we have to rely on each other and as long as there is a "state" with "state obligation" the money has to be collected, why a tax on "property" should be exempt would need to have to be explained to me.

I explained that to you, you ignore it.

It doesnt matter what they call the tax, its the same money, same person, same pocket where the money comes from, whether its called income tax or property tax is irrelevant

Then who pays for snow shoveling, road maintenance, fire and police, etc.? If you eliminate property tax, you have to raise income taxes, and then what have you really accomplished?

While I have no problem with giving owner-occupied houses a bit of a discount, having the people who live in a community pay for its essential services is common sense.

People should never lose the home that they own because they can’t afford to pay for their home.

They should never lose something because they can't afford it? Huh?

What if they can't pay their mortgage? Does your opinion apply there too?

Why would a bank ever make a mortgage loan if they're not going to be able to foreclose?
