Just back from the night-before neighbourhood party. About 300 people, under a tent stretched out across someones yard. Muslim, Protestant and Catholic prayers were said. Speeches about the state of the nation and the nationalist movement that kicked out the Dutch. A 30 minute mass walk around the neighbourhood. Stewed jack ...[text shortened]... so many people living in abject poverty and with the government still teeming with kleptocrats?
Quite frankly until people are prosecuted, even in their old age, for murdering a million in the Sukarno coup, I think Indonesia's politics are always going to be suspect to its people.
It is a remarkable nation in many respects however. Very diverse.
And I love the cuisine!
