The goal of the US should be to be as bad as all of those countries.

No, but we need to take a realistic look at what is happening.... When times are good, people don't seem as interested in these issues,,,, maybe there are more people sitting a round with little to do now,, heck.
But the illegals have to be a drain on resources in states, especially california... so raise taxes,, or enforce laws? or both?

We can't afford to take care of our own, let alone the rest of the world (even if the rest of the world travels to this country).

all funds confiscated and a couple of years detention in an immigration camp at Guantanamo seems about right for a first offense.

    a tropical paradise!

The best solution is no boarders. A global minimum wage and then everyone can pay proper prices and be paid a propper wage. There will be no need to fight over boarders and no need to conquer. We can all enjoy the real luxuary life has to offer, choice, and chose where we want to live, what job we want to do and how we want to spend our money. Scrap benefits becuase there is always a job for everyone and that will make people rely on their families more, creating a better sense of identity and belonging.

They are most certainly not a drain on our economy. They ARE a good chunk of our economy.

Immigrants are working in this recession. They're selling flowers and oranges at freeway on ramps if need be but they WORK.

what a country can afford is a matter of perspective. America sends rockets into space while people die for want of shelter and warmth- it's not about how much money but who dishes it out.

I know the US is hurting economically, but to say immigrants selling flowers and oranges on freeway ramps is a good chunk of our economy has to be an exageration, right?

It's cheaper to send rockets to the moon or Mars than taking care of the world. It is about costs. If you can't afford to do it, you can't afford to do it.

It's pretty cheap to provide food and shelter for everyone within the country's borders.

Construction, farm labor, maids, landscaping, marijuana (#1 California cash crop, twice the sales of our second agricultural product, which is dairy), mechanics, distribution of yes flowers, fruit, tamales, popsicles, fresh cooked corn (called elotes) and many other foods and other goods out of handcarts, all-purpose manual labor on demand...the list goes on and on.

EDIT - They don't use public services because they're terrified of the government. The ones selling oranges at freeway on ramps are equivalent to the white boys who live with Mom. That is, they work. Period. Whites sit around whining about being unemployed; these guys work.
