J/K -- I'm only gay, and although that is okay as a kind of shorthand, I don't really care for some of the baggage that comes with that, e.g., I don't participate in Gay Pride parades dressed in rainbow feathers and silver hotpants.

I'm a guy who's attracted to guys (not all of you! don't panic!) who wonders how anyone could possibly come out as all of those letters in that idealistic but false attempt at coalition-building (which, let's face it, was probably invented by some bossy lesbians).

Of course I only write this as a kind of farewell note, because that vicious train of woke alphabet-people academics and their students (really, these are all people who never graduated from school to the real world) is coming my way, and I will soon be splattered across the tracks for not adhering to and promoting their totalitarian party line. It's almost as if Stalin had rainbow babies.

I think the point is that in some countries all of these would be executed, and in this country all of those people are in danger of getting attacked.

In this country (USA), everyone is in danger of getting attacked.

Join the club.

I'm in the "straight white male" club that's being attacked too.

Actually, that has been on my mind as well: the stereotyping, "othering" and exclusion of straights and white people by *some* in the putative rainbow-alphabet "coalition" is concerning and seems self-undermining.

I'm cool with you as a person (as far as I can tell from a few dots on the internet). Pretty sure we would get along okay and respect each other in person.

Something I might have to face in my waning years is that I am a gay white male, so might get attacked for my "I've got mine, Jack" attitude and for not doing enough to help every other part of the spectrum.

Very interesting OP.

Kevin, I appreciate your observations here, and I want to say, that while we probably disagree on a lot, I am glad that you see the reality for what it is...

Of course, many gay people face being disowned or other social blowback, but the answer to this is not creating a scenario where people who are opposed to the LGBTQ revolution are treated with contempt and unpersonning.

Hopefully, at some point, we demilitarize our politics, and we can discuss things as people with diverse views, not as enemies who treat politics as all or nothing.

Turnabout is fair play, is it not? Although the better course would be to lead by example when possible.

It's not so much a revolution as a revelation, not only of things as they are, but of the damage people can do under the influence of artificial worldviews.

Excellent post, and I agree completely.

And the last paragraph...THAT is our answer, if only everyone would cut the PC garbage, and be granted the grace that allows for true honesty without fear of attack by those who oppose your viewpoint. I'm a straight white male, and have a daughter and mixed-race granddaughter that are My World. My daughter has many gay friends, and they all treat me with respect. I provided them with a lot of laughs, that's for sure! I love them all very dearly.

In the end, I don't care what race, gender, etc.. If there is a person in this world who treats my girls with kindness--I'd walk through hell on a Sunday morning for them.

Time out, Philokalia!

Have you been trolling us or are you so securely established in the metareality that you can assess whether someone else can see the reality for what it is? 😉

P.S. -- Are the monks of Mount Athos allowed to have eggs? I know they don't allow hens there.

I appreciate the truth of what I understand to be your point, and especially your ability to discuss something so serious while still injecting intelligent humor.

I think it is very unfair that you should even have to worry at all about being attacked by militant alphabet-people. And your later comment, "In the USA, ANYONE can be attacked" is so starkly and darkly true that I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Anyway, it's not much of an answer, but you asked me to answer you, and so I have done my best.

Best wishes, Kevin, from a straight white male who has many gay friends. They're almost all half my age, and several were in abusive relationships with straights before finally embracing who they really were. In a few of those cases, my house was their refuge for a time. They knew, and I mean KNEW there wasn't going to be any harm come to them under my roof.

Agreed. The woke community seems rather fundamentalist in their words and actions.

As I pointed out in a recent discussion at work: I’m not quite sure how a gay Catholic in Northern Ireland (in the 70’s) was enjoying his white privilege.
The answer was obviously that he had at least not been descended from slaves and if he was black it would be much worse.

My retort was along the lines of: many Jews in Europe were white. How do they fit into the privileged elite of the world?
And the answer was: they aren’t black. They don’t know what suffering due to their history and skin colour is.

At which point does one shrug and just walk away. As with religious fundamentalists, political fundamentalists, any kind of fundamentalist, they have a narrative and everything must fit into it.

It’s a gorgeous game. And one best left to self-implosion.

As for coming out gay? I’ve been lucky to live in an environment that people don’t need to come out. You are what you are and nobody blinks an eye.
I think that’s how it should be. I mean, who the hell cares who I stick my tongue in (well, besides my wife… she’d probably have something to say about it… )?

Are the parents of your mixed race granddaughter still together?

Just my statistical curiosity wondering 🤔

No, unfortunately they are not. My daughter is a single mom, but gets a LOT of aid from Papa and Mimi.
