From its founding, Israel always has been a de facto Jewish supremacist state,
not a nation of equal citizens. Now its Prime Minister has made that more obvious.

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/mar/10/benjamin-netanyahu-says-israel-is-not-a-state-of-all-its-citizens

"Benjamin Netanyahu says Israel is ‘not a state of all its citizens’
PM has been accused of demonising Israeli Arabs in lead-up to April election."

"Benjamin Netanyahu has said Israel is “not a state of all its citizens”,
in a reference to the country’s Arab population."

"Israel is not a state of all its citizens. According to the basic nationality law
we passed, Israel is the nation state of the Jewish people – and only it."
    --Benjamin Netanyahu

Netanyahu's lying, of course, when he claims that Arabs who are
citizens of Israel have equal rights with Jews who are citizens of Israel.
By law and custom, Jews are privileged over Arabs in almost every way.
The one main exception is that Israel does not conscript its Arab citizens
(though it conscripts the Druze) into the IDF, but that's only because
Israel's government does not trust its 'equal' (sarcasm) Arab citizens.

Likewise, apartheid South Africa (whose closest ally was Israel) did not
conscript blacks (though a very few volunteered) into the SADF because its
government was afraid that armed black men would turn their guns against it.

"Netanyahu has been accused of demonising Israeli Arabs, who make up about 17% of the
population, in an attempt to boost rightwing turnout in elections due on 9 April."

Netanyahu's rabid anti-Arab racism has made him greatly admired by President Trump
and most right-wing Americans (particularly evangelical Christians).

Let's suppose that President Trump were to declare that the USA's a 'democracy
with equal rights for every citizen' but it's truly a nation-state of white Christian people.

Let's suppose Duchess could come up with an occasional solution to the problems facing the world, rather than just complaining about them. That would be a truly historic event.

Let me help the poor gal out with a few :

    - Syria
    - Iran
    - Saudi Arabia
    - Iraq
    - Pakistan
    - Libya
    - Egypt
    - Afghanistan
    - Bangladesh

Do secularist elements in these countries have the freedom to criticize their governments as we do in the West?

    Nope.

Islamo-supremacy is alive but not well in the world.

Contrary to the troll Mchill's claim, I ALREADY have proposed that Israel / Palestine
become a secular democratic state with *equal rights for all its citizens*, whether
Jewish, Muslim, Christian, or of other religions or none and with a right of return
    for Palestinian refugees.

I already know that almost all Americans have been 'brainwashed' into regarding
a 'one state solution' as unspeakably horrible because giving equal rights to Palestinians
would challenge their cherished belief that Israeli Jews need to maintain their
dominance over life in Israel / Palestine.

    Hey Ms. Glasshouse!
    Mr. Stone is calling.
First of all, I note that Israel's Jewish supremacy is based upon a Jew being defined
as an ethnicity (or nationality), NOT as a believer in Judaism. Some extreme right-wing
Israeli Jews are atheists. In fact, a former senior official (he's probably dead now)
in the PLO had a Jewish mother, so he would be regarded as a Jew under Jewish law.
But Israel still excluded him from returning to his homeland because he was an anti-Zionist Arab.

Wolfe63 shows his extreme ignorance and Islamophobic bigotry.
It's wrong to claim that so many, if not most, predominantly Muslim societies are an
Islamic theocracy or even (formally) an Islamic Republic.

Saudi Arabia is an Islamic theocracy. Iran is (formally) an Islamic Republic.
Pakistan was founded as a Muslim separatist state. Afghanistan was an Islamic
    theocracy under the Taliban.

Iraq, Libya, and Syria were all secular states under Saddam Hussein, Gaddafi, and
Assad respectively, but since then they have all been so divided by civil wars (in
which one faction has been Islamist) that it's often hard to refer to them as having
established governments. Nonetheless, they remain as nominally secular states.
Iraq's government does favor the Shia, and Syria's government favors the Alawites.

Egypt's government originally took power in a military coup d'état AGAINST a
democratically elected government of the Muslim Brotherhood. It's absurd to
regard Egypt as an Islamic theocracy.

It's also absurd to regard the People's Republic of Bangladesh (note that it's NOT
named the Islamic Republic of Bangladesh) as any 'Islamic supremacist' state since
it won its independence (with the support of non-Muslim India) from Pakistan.

In short, the troll Wolfe63's extremely ignorant and misinformed about predominantly
Islamic societies and spews bigoted propaganda (which seems cherished by most Americans).
Only a rather small minority of predominantly Muslim countries may be reasonably described
as Islamic theocracies--and even they are diverse in their tolerance of dissent.

On a more general note, almost all Americans here (including Wolfe63) are extremely
ignorant and misinformed (being addicted to hateful propaganda) about Islam
and Muslims--and are too arrogantly close-minded to learn anything factual.

That may explain why so many Americans seem absolutely convinced that Ilhan
Omar was brought up from birth to hate all Jews or even wish that they were all dead.

IF the People's Republic of Bangladesh were an Islamic theocracy, as Wolfe63 has

"It's as if you actually think that no one else in the world has ever attended university

    FALSE and irrelevant.
I already know that some writers here (KazetNagorra, Soothfast, Teinosuke) say
that they have earned PhDs and are academics (though KN may be in research).

It's irrelevant because I know of no one here who has claimed an 'advanced degree'
in studies relating to Islam or Muslims. Wolfe63's certainly extremely ignorant and misinformed.

IF the People's Republic of Bangladesh were an Islamic theocracy, as Wolfe63 has
claimed, then why would it NOT rename itself as the 'Islamic Republic of Bangladesh'?

Note that the lying troll Wolfe63 refuses to concede his blatant errors.

Now for perhaps the ultimate irony, even a major pro-Israeli lobby in the USA
has--on the surface--criticized Netanyahu, though not about his latest statement.

"The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (Aipac), which has generally given
unflinching support to the Israeli leader during his 13 years in power, called the
Jewish Power party “racist and reprehensible”"

"An analysis in the right-leaning Jerusalem Post newspaper, however, said the
crisis between Israel and Aipac was being overplayed. “The next time [Aipac]
goes to meet a senator or congressman to lobby for additional funding for Israeli
missile-defense projects, it might be asked about Otzma. It needed to take a moral
    stand now,” it read.

It noted that despite the criticism, Aipac announced two days later that it was honoured
Netanyahu would address its annual meeting in Washington next month."
