Americans are forever blathering on about their freedoms and democracy.
It’s time to stand up and actually defend it.

Agreeing with trump is appeasement and doing nothing means you will carry the ultimate blame.

Speak up or goosestep in line.

    What have the papers said?

Starting with the Boston Globe itself, the editorial there, headlined Journalists Are Not The Enemy, argued that a free press had been a core American principle for more than 200 years

The New York Times chose the headline A Free Press Needs You, calling Mr Trump's attacks "dangerous to the lifeblood of democracy". It published excerpts from dozens more publications beneath

The New York Post - hardly a left-leaning paper - answered the Globe's call by saying "Who are we to disagree?" adding: "It may be frustrating to argue that just because we print inconvenient truths doesn't mean that we're fake news, but being a journalist isn't a popularity contest. All we can do is to keep reporting." But it also said: "Will this make a difference? Not one whit"

The Philadelphia Inquirer said its city was the birthplace of US democracy, writing: "If the press is not free from reprisal, punishment or suspicion for unpopular views or information, neither is the country. Neither are its people"

Opinion writers at McClatchy put out an editorial for the 30 daily newspapers it runs, including the Miami Herald, saying they hardly ever spoke with one voice but were doing so now. It said "enemies of the people" was "what Nazis called Jews. It's how Joseph Stalin's critics were marked for execution"

All of the biggest Danish newspapers have joined in on this as we see a shift towards attacking or controlling the free press by certain right wing politicians in Denmark too.

It's a sad day that independent, Danish journalists have to use time to actively defend their position because of a US President that don't understand how democracy works and who cannot deal with (legit) criticism.

I agree. I was once a left leaning Independent, but Donald Trump has turned me into a die hard socialist!

I hope most world leaders understand that Trump is mostly saber rattling.

However, if his approval ratings drop or one of them rubs him the wrong way Trump might invade. Watch out Canada.

Media consolidation hasn't helped much either.
When just a handful of complicit billionaires control the dissemination of truth, it is easily manipulated.
This shedding of press freedoms in the United States has been going on for at least half a century.
This unfortunate relegation to fewer and fewer easily accessible news sources has had long-term consequences. The proof is becoming manifest.

A poorly informed population becomes ignorant of the slow squeeze of the boa which is imminently poised to devour it.

The press is the only industry even mentioned in the US Constitution.

I'm dreading the day that a member of the press is killed (or even put in the hospital) at a Trump rally. All this talk of the media being the enemy of the people seems to be begging for it to happen, sooner or later. It's always the guilty who are loudest when accusing others.

    Apparently the answer is none.

Whatfinger provides news cherrypicked from other sources and disguised to support the far-right viewpoint.
It's no more than a rehashed nephew of Breitbart, Drudge, etc., etc.

You can put lipstick on a pig, hoople, but it's still a pig.

They report "just the facts, ma'am".

It's not their fault the Republicans are so corrupt.

We don't "shoot the messenger" in this country, at least we never used to.

industry, noun, any general business activity or commercial enterprise, specifically in a particular field.

Do you even speak English, or are English definitions you don't like just "fake news"?

    Are their measages lies?
Do you think the international press, the UN and I are lying to you?

Seriously Mott, you have to wake up and smell the coffee.
trump is alienating the US, and ultimately speeding its demise.
But, importantly, trump’s regime is set upon creating scenarios and attempting to make anything else seem false.

You have too look at the evidence. Not what you’ve been told by anybody, but at the fragments of information you have at your disposal:

    - what seems most likely?
    - which elements are claiming the other is false (in other words: who is saying that something is false, rather than reporting on what’s actually happening)?
    - why is the majority of the world opposed to trump and his behaviour?*

    * do you really think this is about undermining truths? Do you really think I want North Korea or Russia to win any war (at the moment)?
Do you really imagine than my calling you trailer trash is anything other than a cheap tactic to bully you?
Of course not. It’s just me riling you in a playful manner.

You, though, have to understand (SERIOUSLY) that trump, Erdogan, Netenyahu, etc. are teetering the world on the brink of a major... nasty... event.
You can’t sit there supporting trump, and then when the faeces hits the fan, say you only watched.

It’s time to stand up and be serious. Time to be honest (no matter what your political persation is) and to call trump and his lies out.
