@AverageJoe1 saidThe point of your post and your problem ?????
PUBLIX grocery stores, top of the line, spend between 6m and $10M to build a store, in less than 6 (SIX)months.
Can;t you people do anything riight???
Publix Super Markets is the largest employee-owned supermarket chain in the U.S., founded in 1930 and renowned for high-quality, clean stores primarily located in the Southeast. With over 1,300 locations, they are famous for superior customer service, the "[Publix Sub]" (Publix Sub), and in-house bakery items.
@Martin saidPoint. NYC owns a tract. Maybe they should get the advice of the architects and contractors at Publix and build the damn store now and have it up and running by.Christmas?

Does this tell you something about private entrepreneurs versus government?
Give it up

This company is worth 50 billion dollars. This should tell you they do a great many things - right.

@kmax87 saidYeah, whatever, but I am comparing real estate development, not grocery stores. Yes, as i said, Publix is top of the line.

So, I assume NYC has $5M for this project. That is what it costs to build a grocery store ...top of the line...his should be cheaper. I have built warehouses, easy peasy, only took 4 months, given there is no refrigeration, etc. Costs about $2.5, not including the parcel of land.
Tell us why he needs THIRTY MILLION TAXPAYER DOLLARS and 3 years. That is all I ahv written about. i reallh don't get the last two posts above.
So, no comment on the $30M for 3 years out? I am trying to be educated!!!!!
@paradox4 saidI am worth $10M and want to build a grocery store. 40,000 square feet

Publix is worth $50B and wants to build a grocery store. 40,000 square feet
Please elaborate on any differentiations?
What is different about their building a store, and me building a store. In other words, what are you saying? Libs do not close their posts, so much is left hanging. Read your post. And read the post above that gives us a bit of Wikipedia on Publix. WHAT in the hell was that written for?
@AverageJoe1 saidNot sure what your high blood pressure is all about. A multibillion dollar company out of their own free will is building a store roughly 10 times the amount you say you could build it.

Do you have every bit of information relative to the deal? Are the people of NYC complaining? Are there aspects of the deal not known to you? Are you concerned because you feel you can't now build in NYC. Are you just being a noisy Karen???
@kmax87 saidYou writing about Publix again, I used that store as a comparison of costs and building time. I have NO IDEA what you are off on. Marauder does that a lot these days.

. OK, I will discount your 'publix' post by inserting "Food Lion' ,a low cost grocery store in the south. They can build a store for lets say $4M in Seneca, Misissippi. The store is a type of pitiful below-average store....has to be, you see, as will be the lettuce.
So Food Liion gets it built inside 12 months. $4M.
Tell us what that has to do with Publix. Can you answer a question? I think I used the word differentiation?
@AverageJoe1 saidMaybe its because you provided zero context. So Mamdani wants to have 5 grocery stores built, one in each borough at a cost of millions. New York City will own the stores and someone else will operate the business. The purpose of which is to reduce the food cost for people living in those boroughs. And your problem with this is? Mamdani needs to fix every other problem first?

He promised A (that translates to ONE) cheap grocery store, and said he would have it up and running in 2029 at a cost of $30, million.
Then you say it is 5 stores,,,,,,,THEN, i pull up this link.
"""""According to reports surrounding the NYC public grocery store plan, Mayor Zohran Mamdani proposed a $70 million budget to build five city-owned grocery stores. While one location is reported to cost $30 million, reports indicate that the overall plan is not constrained to only $20 million for any specific number of stores.""""
So, did he lie? Lie!?!?!?!?!? OMFG. so what is going on. Please write a post telling us so we can have a nice discussion. If it is a cost of SEVENTY Million dolllars for FIVE stores, then average joe will have to refigure with my algorhythm program.
Lets get on the same page and impress our Forum-goers!!!!!

When has any government project been delivered on time under budget?
I think politicians purposely low ball any cost so as not to get a negative reaction.
But the big picture is providing lower cost food. Do you have a problem with that?

OK, all together now, 'we all know that mamdani has promised to open a grocery store owned by the city, which will make groceries cheaper for the citizens"". We have read that he will pay $30M and have it up and running in 2029!!!!!!
Avjoe wrote a few posts, querying why it takes so much money and so looooooonnnnnnnggg to open it, as stores from Food Lion on up to Publix take less than a year to build, and can do it under $10M
So, then, we get innocuous posts like this that go nowhere.
And he asks me if I am correct to say Mamdani lied when he said one store for $30M ready in 2o29.
The news has been saying he cannot do it, so, in a Suzianne world, he is lying. I don't think he was lying, he was pontificating as a politician, like Trump does on occasion.
OK for him, but not for Trump???? Don't seem fair does it?
Any way, cut to the chase . Mamdani cannot perform and has much as said so. You can hardly say he is 'not on time' when he is giong to take 3 years to do something Food Lion can do in a few months, and....do it cheaper. Give it up. Go wrestle with son house
@AverageJoe1 saidSo Food Lion has built stores in NYC under a year under $10M. I'm asking a question. I don't know. NYC is notoriously expensive in getting things built.

And you agree the politicians promise and deliver, sometimes. So what's your problem?
@AverageJoe1 saidHow about your comparison between apples and crocodiles. Are you saying that the cost compliance to meet building codes in NYC and the South are the same?
