Who shut down the government when they didn't get what they want? Which party has a record number of filibusters during this presidency? Which party has members going on record as saying "if he (president) was for it, we had to be against it" on every policy Obama made? Who said they won't support ANYONE Obama nominates for justice?
You want "divisive ...[text shortened]... called Mexican immigrants "rapists"?
Man, what a spirit of working together you guys have.
The design of the US government is divisive. That is the way it is supposed to work, and is supposed to prevent tyranny. I want the party I support to fight tooth and nail against policy they believe is bad policy.
The idea of divided government is central to our form, with the idea of preventing any party or group from railroading government over the course of a couple of election cycles.
The Democratic party is far more effective at slowing down a Republican majority than is the opposite. But the system is based on opposition, not cooperation. It has been shown that when an outside threat arises, that Americans unify despite party loyalties. That's fine with me. It gives us clear choices in elections as to the nations direction, as well as out cities and States.
