Lots of questions about the difference in volume and nature of the media coverage between this event and the recent one in Colorado.

    http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/08/06/1117240/-Latest-on-Sikh-temple-shooting

There are suggestions of racism in one form or another (kind of like the differences in levels of concern over the Kent State shootings decades ago and the Jackson State shootings involving black students). And it may be in play.

But I would also suggest another factor, which might be overload. People haven't recovered from the first incident. They're not ready to jump head first into this one.

At least the right wing radio show hosts won't be blaming liberals for this one. Will they? Maybe if all of these pacifists were armed, it wouldn't happen. And why are they bring children to a temple anyway?

It's kind of creepy for me. I was in the neighborhood earlier this summer visiting relatives who live south of Milwaukee.

What's wrong with bringing kids to temples?

Ask Kunsoo's hypothetical right wing radio show host if he/she were responding to this incident in a way comparable to his/her response to the one in Colorado.

Can you guess who Pat Robertson is blaming it on?

Shootings become public national news items when they fit a certain model, and may support certain solutions.

If you reported shootings evenly and daily, you probably need go no further than Detroit, Chicago, LA, and a few other large cities.

I could fill a page with links from just this year, and a lot of them don't even get reported in major papers in Detroit. There is a problem, one that isn't going to be solved by making guns unavailable to decent people. There is a people problem, in which people determine the solution to relatively minor squabbles are places where you kill someone. I was in Detroit less than a month when I was approached with offers to buy guns out of the trunk of a car. We have since the '20s had very restrictive gun laws in Detroit, yet since I got here in the mid '60s we've been murder central more times than I want to count.

He almost never blames stuff on the devil (as far as I know at least).

No, this time he blamed it on something that actually exists.

Well he blamed the Haitian earthquake on a national deal with the devil.

Oh yes, that was one of his funnier moments. I forgot about that. This time apparently it wasn't the devil though.

    An article on topic.

And one that almost had me in a fit - until I noticed the source.

Atheists! The correct answer was atheists.

I am sure the gays came a close second though.

He talked about Baptist Churches being shot up. When's the last time that happened? I think it was a Baptist Church which was bombed killing four kids during the Civil Rights Movement, but I don't think that's what he was talking about. Before this event, the last church which was shot up was a Unitarian Church. Many Unitarians are atheists. Go figure.

Hold on. A white supremacist killed Sikhs because of... atheists?

I think the assumption is that the killer was an atheist. Atheists don't like God. They get angry at the world. And then they kill people. It's on Youtube somewhere.
