At least from the debate forum is it really crosses all demographic lines, including political. I don't see one particular political ideology being overreprested. It's a pretty good mix.

If you'll excuse the broad brushstrokes, I think that the 'right' to 'centre right' is somewhat under-represented.

The only real theme I see is that most posters on these boards are of above average intelligence and of above average education.

This, if course, is also consistent with the set of chess players in general.

I only notice that trend with the posters on the left.

You don't think that Sleepyguy and Spruce and Wajoma, etc., are of above average intelligence? I mean, you may not agree with them, but I don't think there's much doubt that they are.

Chess is more of a left wing kind of thing to do. It takes a lot of free time to get really good at chess and most conservatives would rather be doing something productive like working on their career or starting a business.

Sitting around coffee houses all day griping about why the government doesnt give you more free money to play chess all day sounds much more left wing than right wing.

Thats not to say that conservatives can't be good at chess if they put their mind to it. The two best chess players of all time were hard core conservatives (most would classify Fischer as a right wing extremist) and you could make arguments for many more top players. Its just that chess seems to attract more left wing types.

As far as balance on this board, I would say left wingers are over-represented by about 10x what they are in the general population in the US. The true hard core socialists that seem to be coming out of the woodwork here seem to be extremely rare in real life. I can go most days of my life and never run across one. I would think if what you say about being in the military is true, you would agree. There's a lot of reasons why there's less balance here but it certainly has nothing to do with intelligence.

Most right wingers can't figure out how to get the antenna to work for their internet access.

International chess site does not conform to demographics of US society. Parochial American surprised. Prejudice confirmed.
