Have we ever had a thread where people explained the origin of their login IDs?

    Cool! Now me.

I almost never go by nicknames, but 'spruce' was what a dear friend (no longer with us!) used to call me. I'm over 6 ft and used to be thinner...

But the first time I tried to login to RHP, the helpful robot told me that 'spruce' was taken. 'Why not add a number like spruce1 or spruce99?' the automaton continued.

So I tried to think of a number that I would remember, and 112358 immediately came to mind (Fibonnacci; more digits than zip code, less than phone number)

After several years, FMF suggested that I should add an avatar, which is simply a colorado blue spruce.

As for me, I was confused in that I thought I was entering a login ID and not a user ID that would be displayed. "moon1969" is just an easy phrase for me to remember that I sometimes use for login IDs (and have used as a password in the past but no more).

After the fact, I could make the connection that I live in Houston, and have lived close to Johnson Space Center, and have known people who worked directly or indirectly for NASA, and have witnessed the benefit of the federal dollars flowing in.

Also, I had a highly educated friend who was convinced that we did not really land on the moon in 1969, and it was a hoax. I thought it was a weird thought. I now know that is a conspiracy theory. Still think it is weird.

"FMF" is what it is; nothing more and nothing less.

I note with interest that you are now avatar-less, FMF. What gives?

I am named after Teinosuke Kinugasa (1896-1982), Japanese film director who made A Page of Madness (avant-garde silent classic) and Gate of Hell (first Japanese colour film to be shown abroad), amongst others. When I was living in Japan I started trying to use Japanese filmmakers' names as online pseudonyms and discovered that the obvious ones like Akira, Kenji or Nagisa tended to be taken. Kinugasa is admired by specialists, but was obscure enough to the general public to be free on most websites. I think this is now the only site where I still use that pseudonym.

When I was in high school I started using dryhump as a screen name. Usually in chat rooms where I was an awful cyber bully.

So this can be like a wake for you, then. But will we never then know the secret behind "FMF"? :'(

I was a lead guitar player in heavy metal bands through the years. I thought Metal Brain would be a cool name for a band, but it never happened in reality. Since the price of fuel went up, I gave up on the band scene because of the long drives required in my rural area.

At least it made for a good user name.

I think your user name has been somewhat tarnished by what you post with it, actually.
