You sit in front of your TV's, remotely switching between the channels that tell you who to vote for, with a billion dollar advertising budget, the channels that remotely broadcast misleading information and leave you ignorant of the truth - the channels that hide the carnage that unfolds in a country remote from you.
Out to remote areas across your country, you vote for politicians you've never met and who make the dirty decisions for you, claiming there's nothing else you can do.
The politicians remotely transmit their orders and the soldiers claim they follow orders as they kill. Bombs fall from high up in the air and machine guns rattle, as people die in the distance. The suffering is remote from you.
The end of a term in office is too remote, with politicians left unaccountable, claiming they have support of the people they bought with their billion dollar advertising budget.
The chances of the politicians being investigated for conflict of interest is remote.
You're so remote from reality that there's little that you will do.
Remote control killers.

ps... in case you missed it.. This (Stans... not my) post is great poetry. Well done Stan. You just have to place cadence and rhythm and it is truly great poetry. I'm impressed Sir Stan.

I am reassembling it as we speak. It is better by ten than anything I have attempted. Maybe I see it only because i have so attempted. Study it. Learn the meaning of pain and life and hope.

Doesn't it need some kind of rhythm or rhyme? All I saw was a paragraph with the 'remote' theme. Or are the standards for 'poetry' a bit relaxed these days?
Originally posted by BigDoggProblemWith Stans forgiveness.... Let me try to add a bit of rhythm. Back in a minute.

You!
sit in front of your TV's, remotely switching
between the channels that tell you
who! to vote for, with a billion dollar advertising budget,
the channels that remotely broadcast misleading
information and leave
you
ignorant of the truth - the channels that hide
the carnage that unfolds
in a country remote from
you.
Out to remote areas across your country,
you
vote for politicians you've never met and who!
make the dirty decisions for
you,
claiming there's nothing else you can do.

and the soldiers claim they follow orders
as they kill.
Bombs fall from high up in the air
and machine guns rattle, as people die
in the distant battle.
The suffering is remote from
you.

Originally posted by STANGStang, I am absolutely in favor of the USA staying out of all foreign involvement. Close the bases and bring the troops home. Cut off trade. Send the legals and ilegals home. The USA should have stayed out of WWI and WWII. Let Europe, Asia, Africa, The Middle East and the Pacific Island nations burn until the fires go out for lack of fuel. But as soon as American boots hit the ground I back them period, no matter what.

If you bet on both horses in a two horse race, you would pick the winner but ultimately lose money because the bookies fix the odds in their favour.
The US government system seems similiar. The democrats & republicans being the horses, whilst the grey men who fund & advise them being the bookies. Regardless of whom you backed in the last election American troops would more than likely still be in Iraq. The grey men will want to get their profits.
Originally posted by Jay PeateaIn the pari-mutual system it's actually the betting public that decides the odds. And there are race cards in which you could bet every horse to win that goes to the post and make money. Such cards contain an inordinate number of races for non-winners and very low quality horses.
