This is a spin-off of the Norway terror thread. Someone there made the argument that because there have been so many Islamic terror acts that in each case of terror from here on in it is reasonable to assume that the acts were committed by Muslims before you have any facts, and especially if the media isn't reporting on the race of the attackers because the media is pro-Arab or something like that.

Anyway, I've gathered up some links on right wing terror in the US. Wikipedia has chronicled Christian extremist incidents as well as abortion terror, and I will repost those links. However, the Southern Poverty Law Center has a list of incidents which has taken place in the US since 1995.

    http://www.splcenter.org/get-informed/publications/terror-from-the-right

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_terrorism

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-abortion_violence_in_the_United_States#United_States

We won't even bother with the list of incidents against civil rights activists during the segregation fights. That would be overwhelming.

First, I really, really need to set the record straight, since I presume that opening line was directed at me.

I did NOT say or mean to imply that "the media isn't reporting on the race of the attackers because the media is pro-Arab."

What I said (fairly clearly, I thought) is that I thought that the media was more likely to announce the race of a non-Arab terrorist taken into custody in order to minimize the risk of anti-Arab backlash. That is really really not the same thing as saying that they'd not release the race "because the media is pro-Arab." It isn't even "something like that."

The first four instances of terrorism listed a combined total of one death.

Ted Kennedy, acting alone, has killed that many people on a Friday night.

He probably make several deities cry, but we won't go into that.

Okay, that's fair. But it's silly. If there's going to be a backlash, delaying the delivery of the truth isn't going to mitigate anything.

Anybody wondering how the American right wing is responding?

    Good line:

Aren't terrorists supposed to be bearded brown desert people with funny headgear? And that's when I noticed that the "Terror Attack in Oslo" headlines started shifting editorially to "Extremist Attacks in Oslo".

There is an undercurrent, or backlash, against the Islamic population in Norway, apparently, as well as within the Dutch population.

This may not be so isolated an event in the mear future.
