Data centers are essentially the infrastructure that makes modern computing possible. AI is one major use, but so are cloud computing, medical research, financial services, businesses, online services,, and thousands of other applications.
And the NSA storing everyone’s communications is a completely DIFFERENT issue from building commercial data centers. A data center isn’t inherently an NSA facility any more than an electrical grid is inherently a government surveillance system. (Granny again). Get with it, MetalHouse.
If you oppose a a particular data center, thT is just fine, do it..argue about its electricity consumption, water use, noise, tax incentives, or impact on the community. But ‘What will they use the data for?’ isn’t really an argument against data centers. The data center is infrastructure. what runs on that infrastructure is the relevant question. Get with it
