And the opposite is also true.
What causes poverty amongst the indigenous people? Is it different than other forms of poverty?
How far back do you go to address cultural attrocities? 1 generation? 50 generations?
At some point you just have to get over the past. And start living with what you’ve got.
And if people are in poverty now, that’s the poverty you have to tackle.

The "past" systemic racist atrocities in the U.S. still exist today. The last lynching was March 21, 1981 in Mobile, Alabama. Black people in the U.S. have been denied access to education, employment, income, and the ability to acquire land. They live in constant fear of the police. They routinely receive stiffer sentences for crimes than white people. The list is very long. As for reparations, after the Civil War, slave holders were given reparations for their lost human property. Emancipated slaves were to be given 40 acres and a mule. The later never happened. The impact of slavery and institutionalized, systemic racism is alive and thriving in the United States. It is not ancient history. The reason states refuse to expand Medicaid and the federal government will not provide universal health care is because white people would rather suffer without medical care than see Black people get health care.
