    From the article:

"The Founders understood that the good would outweigh the bad with a free press, and no court could justly measure the rightness or wrongness of news and public opinion. They realized that without allowing the press to operate freely and leaving the people as its ultimate tribunal, America would never truly be a land of liberty.

Fake or biased news was the willingly paid price of an open society, and the winnowing process of the American system ultimately leads the country toward the truth."

    Indeed.

That being said, with the repeal of laws against government-sponsored propaganda back in 2012, [https://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/BILLS-112hr5736ih/pdf/BILLS-112hr5736ih.pdf] formerly known as H.R. 5736 and loosely called the "Smith-Mundt Modernization Act of 2012," all bets are off.
While the citizenry has and will continue to fend for themselves when it comes to the accuracy of various media sources, the government is now in on the act, too.

Once the people recognize news sources as propaganda wings of political parties, the people will no longer listen to thise sources.

So what can be done? Demonize the new sources as fake, but it is the recognized propaganda sources doing it.

yes, i am sure they anticipated the instant access to information and the sheer quantity of it that the internet would provide, as well as everyone being able to contribute unverified falsehoods.

they didn't anticipate slavery going out of style though, did they?
