Here I sit, bowed over my computer like Marlon Brando was crouched over what-ever he was crouching over in Apocolypse now.
Sweat's dripping off my forehead, due to the heat and my eyes are dancing wildly as I comprehend my dilemma. Let me put it to you:
I got a fine for driving without a seatbelt last year. I refused to pay it.
The state is here to protect me from you and you from me, not me from myself.
Well they've upped the fine and upped it again and today the baillif was at my door and handed me a piece of paper. Either I pay up now or they will take away my drivers license, take away my car and/or lock me up.
Have you ever been threatened in this fashion before? I'm well pissed off.
Now, I disagree with the law, I disagree with obeying laws I disagree with and I sure as hell don't agree with a law which protects me from myself. To me it's either they just want more money (and that's why they introduced this law) or they want to form my behaviour, so that I'll be a good little puppy and do what Dr. Government tells me.
And so, I'm well pissed off.
Either I refuse to pay this, which will end up in a fight with me losing my car, my job and probably a lengthy jail sentence ('cause there's no way I'll let them into my house or near my car. I'd rather fight till my death) and the worst part is the stress I'll be putting my girlfriend and family through.
Or I pay up and have no more hassles.
But along with no more hassles, no more self-esteem, no more moral convictions and I'll be left with a boiling humiliation which will turn me into a ticking vulcano (or timebomb, or whatever).
Either way, I'm fucked.
I have no sympathy for you.
In an ideal world there wouldn't need to be laws to enforce things like wearing seatbelts. But sometimes you just have to protect stupid people from themselves.
So, it is a matter of principle for you, but through your stubborn-ness you have turned a trivial fine into a major case, probably costing tax-payers money to chase around after you.
I say don't pay, then hopefully they will take the money off you and reimburse themselves the costs you have incurred them.

Sucking up to old authorities ass, tongue stuck so far up, you can't breathe properly and seem to be having thinking difficulties.
If I wanted your sympathy I'd oink.
If I wanted commentary on my morals then I certainly wouldn't have written it in such a fashion.
Yes, pleased as pie I am, that folk like you are out there making sure our governments spend their money wisely.

You'll all be pleased to know I paid it. Social pressure has made me bow to the powers that be. I'm pretty much sickened by it all.
I'm really quite fed up.
You know, some people just don't deserve to breathe the air they do. I know it's probably not for me to judge who should live and who should not, but at this moment I feel like calling the shots.

Don't you think that there are principles more in need of staunch defending than the right to imprudently increase the chances of being personally killed or injured in a car so you can wiggle about more freely inside it?
And don't you have some responsibility to your family and girlfriend to act less imprudently?
Should my taxes pay for your likely more extensive medical treatment because you didn't wear a seatbealt?
Does it really irk you that the state might give you a prod or two to do what you would admit in a moment of earnest reflection was the right thing to do?

I usually do wear a seat-belt. But, it is my choice!
As for taxes, should my taxes pay your kids' education? Mr. Bush's war on terrorism? The rail-bosses golden hand-shake?
Only one of the three is to my liking and it certainly ain't no war or golden-handshake.

I ALWAYS wear my seat belt! I have since I was a small child. BUT! one day on the way to school I was pulled over. I had no idea why. I wasn't speeding, I was obeying all the laws. Then the officer said "No seat belt". I was so upset. The ONE time in my life I don't wear a seat belt, I get caught. I put the ticket in my purse and promptly forgot about it. One month later, on a Sunday morning, I was sleeping in, and there was a knock at the door. I went to it and there were two HUGE cops. I was politely under arrest. They allowed me to dress and even let me drive to the station. Then they proceeded to charge me $300. in cash for the ticket. Luckily, I had just been paid and had about that amount in my purse.
About a week later, I was talking to a friend who had the exact same thing happen. It seems a bit over zealous to me concerning a seat belt violation. meanwhile, my town is known for giving murderers probation........

This is turning into a typical: "I always complained I had no shoes, until I met a man without feet" story...
300$?
Bloody hell.
Anyway, the alcohol and drugs are setting in and I'm getting quite serene. I'm sure the next time I see a cop car I'll probably end up putting my key to it or the next time I see a police man, I'll end up spitting at him, but for the moment I feel I have to relax.
And in the wise words of Walter Sobchack: "Fuck it dude, let's go bowling!"
300$...jesus....

Are you saying that there is some sort of equivalence between paying taxes to finance a neurosurgical team to stitch your head back together (after it has gone through the windscreen because you preferred not to buckle up) and paying taxes to finance people who wish to better themselves by laearning and contribute to the economic vitality of the state?
